Hallo Sway & Norman

Well my current camera is a digital one called
Minolta Dimage 7 (>
german). It's not the newest one but the image quality is really good! But if you are looking for a new camera I wouldn't recommend you to buy this camera today. Some years have already passed and at the moment there are different other models which are faster to focus, higher resolution or more flexible. So my personal favorites are currently some products by Canon but many different photographers like Roman Kasperski, Martin Perreault or Alexander Horn using digital cameras by Nikon.
so far

I've been thinking about updating my Z-1 to a digital, and since I already own Pentax lenses and a flash, it's almost a No brainer to go for a Pentax digital SLR. I'm just wondering how they measure up against the other cameras.
I think the Pentax *ist DS would be my camera of choice.
What do you think about that one?

geschrieben 12. Feb 2005 10:30The Pentax has the same CCD as the Nikon D100. So the picture quality is quite similar.
But you know, it's not the camera that makes the "good" photo. It's the one that is holding it

The problem with the point and shoot camers is they don't always shoot when you say SHOOT so you might loose the moment you were trying to catch. That's why I'm thinking about a digital SLR.

You are right, a good camera can help you to make pictures of a better picture-quality... if you can handle it.
Otherwise I read in a photo magazin (please don't ask me about its name - I was waiting for somebody near a bookstore ... after a while I was waiting in this bookstore

) about an really good photographer who wanted to show whether it's important to use a high quality camera or a simple click and shoot one (I think it was a small pocket camera with 1,3MPixel). Well the result of the images was really impressive. Otherwise the pictures were black and white and the noise in the picture was very important for the mood. Finally it was not interesting to compare the images because the quality was secondary.
If you are interested in making some photography like high class glamour to print out, where a high resolutions and good color contrasts are needed, you should of course choose a good camera with (and that's really important) very good objectives! If it's otherwise the question to catch interesting moods and situations it's more important to know how to use this camera!
have fun

Well, I have had a Pentax Z-1 for almost ten years and it has served me well. I have shot more rolls of films than I can count. The only problem with it is developing films is expensive and I constantly forget to bring the films to developing.
I currently have a Sony T1 point and shoot. It's got a Carl Zeiss lens and actually is capable of creating great pictures ... outdoors. When I get indoors, like in partes and those places where a camera of this type would be handy, it really does not shine. The lens is too dim, the flash is so close to the lens, it does not make red eyes, it makes yellow eyes! They are so potent, I need to use Photoshop to fix them.
I'm at least glad to get someone's opinion who isn't blinded by the Canon glare. It seems to have infected everyone here. The *ist DS has received very good reviews so I don't think I can go wrong with it. The good thing is, it can use almost any Pentax lens available, even the old screw mounted types.
How about rechargable batteries? I notice that the DS does not come with them. Do the digital SLRS usually have rechargable batteries and chargers?
I'm attaching a picture taken on a bright sunny day with the T1, of one of Iceland's disappearing glaciers.
Enjoy!
